Frequently Asked Questions

What printing products do you provide?
We print a large range of printed and display products including business cards, letterheads, compliment slips, flyers, brochures, posters, booklets, newsletters, stickers, labels, duplicate books, invitations, greeting cards, post cards, restaurant menus, memorial cards, flags, banners, signs, architectural plans, mounted posters and much more.

What is CMYK?
CMYK stands for Cyan (blue), Magenta (red), Yellow and Key (black). It is the standard colour system used in printing and it involves mixing various percentages of these colours together in a dot, to produce the colours in an image.

What is the acceptable file format?
Adobe Acrobat (.PDF files).

What is print resolution?
Resolution is the term used to describe the number of dots or pixels used to display an image. When printing, a resolution of 300DPI (dots per inch) is needed to produce a crisp, clean image that can be blown up without comprising the quality.

What are bleeds?
A bleed is used when the image needs to go all the way to the edge of the page. Printers have a maximum printable area that is slightly smaller than the paper size. Therefore, the image should extend 3mm over the finished size. When the paper is cut after printing, any white borders are eliminated.

What are crop marks?
Crop marks are the crossed lines printed on the corners of a page to define exactly where the print artwork is to be cut to size after printing.

How do I fix Transparency issues?
The simplest way in most programs is to raster together all images and artwork using transparencies into one layer, keeping your type on top in a separate layer.

How to set up rich black?
To set up a rich black, you need to use a combination of 2 colours. Our standard rich black is: 40% cyan and 100% black.

What sort of paper should I be printing on?
Choosing the right paper and finish is a crucial aspect of quality printing. We can advise and guide you through the selection process, as well as provide a wide range of options. Our stock options include matt, silk or gloss finishes in a wide range of weights, known as gsm (grams per square metre).

Why do the printed colours look different from the colours on my screen?
In short, printers and monitors produce colours in different ways. Monitors use the RGB (red, green, blue) colour model, which usually supports a wider spectrum of colours. Printers use the CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow, black) colour model, which can reproduce most—but not all—of the colours in the RGB colour model. Depending on the equipment used, CMYK generally matches 85–90% of the colours in the RGB model. When a colour is selected from the RGB model that is out of the range of the CMYK model, the application chooses what it thinks is the closest colour that will match. Programs like Adobe Photoshop will allow you to choose which colour will be replaced. Others may not.

What are print proofs?
A print proof is used to ensure that the text, colour and image placement is correct before the print run. A proof can help you avoid frustrating and costly errors. It is important that all the details and documents are checked carefully. Approval is an acceptance of the information and artwork set out. In particular attention to the following: layout / print detail / spelling / print colours and location are required.

Do you provide graphic design services?
Yes we provide a full design and consultation process. Please read more about our graphic design services here.

What files and information do I need to supply?
A thorough brief is essential to any design work and the better the brief, the more closely the end product will match your requirements. We will discuss your particular requirements and make sure that we obtain all the necessary details, but in general you will need to supply an idea/concept, the content you want included, any images you want included, your budget and your time constraint. Where possible, it is also helpful to include examples of similar styles that you like.

What's the best way of supplying my artwork?
The easiest way to send us your files is to email them to us in a .PDF format
